Elizabeth Baker

Elizabeth is a consultant specialising in Risk Management, Finance and Actuarial. She is the Convenor of the Risk Management Practice Committee (RMPC). She has more than 30 years of experience working

in financial services in a range of risk management, finance and actuarial roles in Australia, Asia and Europe in insurance and reinsurance companies and in consulting. She  is a risk culture advocate, has a keen interest in more effective risk management frameworks, the management of both financial and non-financial risks and developing the role that actuaries can play.


Meray El-Khoury
Chief Insurance Officer, MetLife

Meray El-Khoury has recently been appointed the Chief Insurance Officer, responsible for developing all of MetLife's product and pricing strategies in the Australian market and is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia, with a Bachelor of Commerce (Actuarial Studies) degree. Her career spans over 15 years in the insurance, superannuation and wealth management industries, most recently performing roles at MetLife including Chief Retail Insurance Officer and Head of Retail Distribution. Prior to joining MetLife in 2019, Meray held various roles across the Superannuation industry, with highlights including Head of Corporate and Institutional Distribution at a major industry fund, as well as roles in group insurance, finance and financial planning. With a strong passion for developing customer-led product solutions, Meray aims to deliver meaningful propositions to customers that are valued over their lifetime.


Tim Gorst

Tim has over 25 years of financial services experience across both banking and wealth management and currently consults independently as a senior financial services and ERM actuary.  Tim also teaches Enterprise Risk Management at the Australian National University in Canberra and for the Actuaries Institute of Australia.  Tim is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia and a Chartered Enterprise Risk Actuary. 


Annette King, BEc, FIAA, FAICD
Senior Vice President, Actuaries Institute

Annette is a Non-Executive Director at Swiss Re Australia and New Zealand, MLC Superannuation Funds’ Trustee (NULIS), the Chair and Co-Founder of Galileo Platforms (an insurtech company) and formerly a Non-Executive Director at FNZ (a wealth technology company). She has been a CEO, CMO and CFO working in wealth management, pensions and life insurance for companies such as Manulife, AXA and Mercer. She has lived and worked in Australia, Singapore and Hong Kong.  Annette has previously been President of the Life Insurance Association of Singapore and also Council Member for the Singapore Actuarial Society.  She is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Jennifer is a non-executive director and actuary. With more than 25 years of corporate and consulting financial services experience, she is an advocate for the insights actuaries can add to a wide variety of issues. She is Convenor of the Actuaries Institute's working group on Covid19, and a member of the Actuaries Institute's working group on Climate Change. In her spare time she writes her popular actuarial blog  

Rade Musulin
Principal, Finity Consulting

Rade Musulin is a Principal at Finity Consulting in Sydney, Australia, focusing on extreme events and climate risk. Previously he served as the Chief Executive Officer of FBAlliance Insurance, Chief Operating Officer of Aon Benfield Analytics Asia Pacific, and Vice President Operations, Public Affairs, and Reinsurance for the Florida Farm Bureau Insurance Companies.

Rade serves as Convenor of the Actuaries Institute of Australia Climate Change Working Group, Vice-Chair of the International Actuarial Association’s Resource and Environment Virtual Forum, and was Vice President – Casualty for the American Academy of Actuaries from 2016 – 2018.

His main areas of interest include how changing population demographics affect catastrophe exposure, climate change adaptation, applications of catastrophe models for disaster planning in developing countries, building code development, and community resilience. Rade has maintained close ties with academic institutions, including being a lecturer for undergraduate classes in actuarial science, risk management, and political science.


Suzanne Patten
Head of Australian Actuarial Reserving, IAG Australia

Suzanne Patten has 20 years of experience working as an Actuary in general insurance, and previously 20 years in life insurance.  Suzanne is passionate about what Actuaries can bring to better decision making, through the use of data, understanding of risks and application of Actuarial judgement. She is a member of the General Insurance practice committee.

Brett Peppler

Brett Peppler is the Managing Director of Intelligent Futures Pty Ltd – a specialist management consulting practice providing intelligence-led approaches for managing uncertainty in strategic planning.  He is interested in the things that happen at the intersection of strategy, intelligence, foresight, innovation, and risk.  He specialises in the creative application of strategic foresight to frame and navigate complex business challenges.  Recently, Brett has been exploring the emerging discipline of ‘risk intelligence’ and what part it will play in the future of risk management.  Follow Brett on Twitter @cbrettp and @iFuturesAU.


Dr David Price

Dr David Price is a Senior Research Fellow at the Doherty Institute for Infection & Immunity, and the Centre for Epidemiology & Biostatistics, Melbourne School of Population & Global Health at the University of Melbourne. He received his PhD in Statistics from the University of Adelaide in 2015, followed by a post-doctoral appointment in the Disease Dynamics Unit at the Department of Veterinary Medicine, University of Cambridge. David splits his time between methodological research, infectious diseases modelling, and leading a team of biostatisticians to provide collaborative statistical expertise to a broad range of infectious diseases research at the Doherty Institute. Since March 2020, he has been part of a team providing model-based evidence for response planning, quarantine risk assessment, and situational assessment of the COVID-19 pandemic in Australia.

Rick Shaw

Rick is a partner of Consulting and part of the Actuaries practice. He has extensive overseas and Australian experience, and is recognised internationally for his work on capital modelling, regulatory systems and pricing and valuation. Rick’s primary focus is developing management information systems and integrating capital models into companies’ decision making. He has also advised regulators on actuarial valuation standards and capital model approval. 

Aliza Yau

Combining her technical background with recruitment consulting experience, Aliza loves the impact she can make every day by driving her clients down the path to success. Placing her client relationships above all else, she not only provides both exceptional service, but offers the in-depth technical insight needed to successfully recruit actuaries.

Before entering actuarial recruitment, Aliza sat on the other side of the table – as a qualified Chartered Accountant with more than 8 years’ experience in corporate advisory consulting. Evelyn Yong

Evelyn is a Capital Actuary working in life insurance at AIA, with 7 years’ experience in valuation, pricing and analytics, and project roles.

Evelyn is passionate about understanding the social and financial impacts of climate change. She is an active member of the Climate Risk Working Group at the Institute, leading the International Liaison subgroup. She also recently joined the Resource and Environment Virtual Forum with the International Actuarial Association.
