Mental health is a serious issue for Australian society and for our injury and disability schemes. The problems raised by mental health conditions are ‘wicked’, with no simple solutions. Responding to this challenge requires an understanding of the ‘lived experience’. The complexities and challenges of this issue, and trends and approaches to mental health within our schemes will be explored during this important plenary session.

Technological changes, improved analytics capability and medical advancements are already seeing fundamental changes in the way humans live and interact with each other. There are significant opportunities for injury and disability schemes and insurers to harness these changes to improve customer experience and to drive better outcomes.  This session brings together panellists from varied backgrounds to explore the opportunity on our doorstep. The discussion will range from:

  • What is emerging from the data analytics and medical fields that might influence the industry
  • How insurers and schemes are adopting new technology whilst balancing their obligations to society
  • How improved prediction allows schemes to better understand their participants and target interventions
  • How these two disciplines are interacting with each other, e.g. using data from wearables and evidence based medicine, and ultimately what that means for the customer
